"For Halloween celebrations the programme was designed to include works "evoking mystery, suspense and thrills and chills" ... Probably the best known work here is Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre from 1874 ... Nagano and his players create a fitting sense of the grotesque including skeletons rising from their graves for wild and ghoulish dancing ... There is so much to enjoy here on this Decca release Danse macabre and the performances could hardly be bettered"

"Nagano sets the volume dial to '11' in unashamedly big and brash performances of orchestral works inspired by all things supernatural. Ives's Halloween is a fun, if brief surprise"
The gramophone, 2016 December
"This is a curiously oldfashioned sort of disc - a programme of orchestral pieces ... linked only by the shared theme of Halloween ... It is essentially a snapshot of Kent Nagano and his Montreal orchestra circa 2015. As such, it's pretty good ... The performances are for the most part smart and stylish ... Tamara comes off best: Nagano generates a wonderfully gloomy atmosphere in the opening bars and a powerful sense of forward movement"
